Label TextThe term "bebe" was used by French and German doll manufactures and refers to a doll representing a small child, ranging in age from infancy to about six or seven years old. In 1885 Bru advertised, "25 patent inventions. The Bebes Bru, with new patented joints, are the newest, prettiest, the best built, the best jointed, and the most luxurious of all Parisian dolls." Bru Junior and Company was known for innovative designs, being the first to produce a crying doll, a jointed rubber doll and a nursing doll. Bru dolls were also the first dolls having natural eyelashes, as seen on this doll. Her body, which is made of kid-covered wood, was marketed by Bru as being unbreakable and supple.
