Fritz is quoted as saying that Christian and Charlotte Petersen came to his house with a "tub of mud" from Fort Dodge area and modeled a number of people's heads from this. He then fired them and returned each head to the the corresponding model. Fritz was on the Iowa State faculty from 1927 through 1972. He retired as Professor Emeritus of Psychology. Dr. Kentner Fritz, his son, donated money to establish an Endowed Chair of Psychology for Dr. Martin Fritz at ISU in 1997. Petersen created many portrait busts of the Iowa State faculty, staff and of their families between 1934-1955. While some portraits were created as official commemorations for departments or the college, others were created for personal enjoyment such as this small bust of Dr. Fritz.
