Label TextThe first sculptor-in-residence (1934-1951) at any public or private college in the United States, Petersen created twelve major public works of art for the Iowa State campus, including the Fountain of the Four Seasons and The Gentle Doctor. He also was commissioned by the college to create portrait busts of over 100 faculty and staff, including the scuplture of Dr. Friley, which was completed within a few months of his becoming Iowa State's ninth president.
