MarkingsWhile this piece has no markings, similar jars were produced by Westmorland Glass Company Co., which began operating in East Liverpool, Ohio and moved to Grapeville, Pennsylvania in 1890. Westmorland used a paper label on it's early pieces. It was not until 1960 that an embossed "WG" was used as a manufacturer's. The condition is good. The jagged top shows this jar was blown from the top into a blow mold, after which the glass bubble at the top was severed or "wetted off" . This indicates it was pre- 1900 and the use of screw top lids.. The piece originally had a painted design. This paint was removed to show how people would have removed the paint, which was cold painted and thus flaked off easily, to produce a clear jar which could then be used as a vase.
