John Maddock & Sons (Ltd.) was a 19th century English pottery manufacturer. John Maddock founded his first firm, titled "John Maddock," in the 1830's on Newcastle Street, Burslem, England. The town of his birth, Burslem had been the home of a thriving pottery industry since the 12th century thanks to the quality of its abundant local clays. The John Maddock firm there produced granite wares for

sale in the United States before Maddock's interest shifted to fine china. The brand underwent several changes over the years, including becoming "J. Maddock" in 1842, "J. Maddock and Son" in 1855, and "John Maddock & Sons" in 1875, corresponding with his sons', John and James, incorporation into the family business. John Maddock Senior retired in 1871, leaving the operation to his company to his sons. John Maddock & Sons (Ltd.) went out of business at an unknown later date, though it is known to have been in operation into the 1960s.
