Juane Quick-to-See Smith is a nationally acclaimed Native American artist, activist and curator. Smith, an enrolled Flathead Salish member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation, calls herself a cultural art worker. Elaborating on her Native American worldview, her work addresses human rights and environmental issues, as well as today's tribal politics, with a keen sense of humor and insight. Smith is a Native American of Flathead, French-Cree and Shoshone heritage she identifies as a part of Confederated Salish and Kootenai nation. She lived on the Hupa and Nisqually Reserves, having spent most of her childhood in the American Pacific Northwest. She is the daughter of a horse trader, and traveled from one Indian reservation to another, with her art strongly reflecting that heritage. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Framington State College in Massachusetts and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of New Mexico.
