Dale ChihulyAmerican, b. 1941

As a studio glass artist & teacher for over a decade, Dale Chihuly is a major figure among contemporary glass artists. He was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1941. Received an M.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin where he worked with Harvey Littleton from 1966 to 1967. 1968 he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study glass at the Venini Glass Factory in Venice. Also that year he received an M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design where he had been an artist in residence since 1979. In 1981 Chihuly founded Pilchuck, a summer school with an art program emphasizing glass blowing. Pilchuck has attracted glass artists worldwide to work with students for two & three week sessions. Many of Chihuly's assistants are former pupils of the school & third generation glass artists. His glass art has been widely exhibited nationally & is represented in major collections in both the U S & abroad including Corning Museum of Glass, N.Y.; Australian Natl.
