Married Cornelius Gouwens, June 24, 1945. Graduated from West Des Moines High School in 1908. Studied at the Cumming School of Art, Des Moines Iowa 1909-1914 with Charles Atherton Cumming. Studied at School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation in Oyster Bay, Lond, Island, NY and at the Shcool of Fine Arts in Fontainebleu, France. She was Associate-Professor and later head of the Dept. of Graphic and Plastic ARts, University elementary and High Schools at the U of Iowa from 1915 to 1945. Founder of Iowa High School ARt Exhibition from 1930-1945. Developed the model for public school art education in Iowa. Co-Author of the Biography of Charles Atherton Cumming. Moved to Ames in 1945 and taught studio classes in painting and design in Dept. of Applied Art at Iowa State College from 1946 to 1951. Member of the 50year club at ISU. Founders of Universalist Fellowship in Ames.
