Louisa May AlcottAmerican, 1832 - 1888
Born in Germantown, Pennsylvania as the second of four daughters. Alcott began her career writing for the Atlantic Monthly in 1860. In the mid 1860s she wrote novels under the name A.M. Barnard. She published the first part of her most famous work, Little Women, in 1868 under her own name, and the second part in 1869. Alcott died of a stroke on March 6, 1888, in Boston. She is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts.
