William KingAmerican, 1925 - 2015
King was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and raised in Coconut Grove. He attended University of Florida 1942-44, and worked for Pan American Airways repairing seaplanes. He moved to New York City in 1945 and attended Cooper Union Art School in New York City, and in 1949 won a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Rome at the Academia dei Belle Arti.
Since the 1960s King has lived and exhibited in and around New York City. He creates scultpure in bronze, wood, fabric, ceramic, metal, and plastic. King has been married to Lois Dodd, Anne Kolby and Connie Fox. He had two children; Amy, born in 1962, and Eli, born in 1952.
King died at his home in New York March 4, 2015.
