Label TextFrom the University Museums Collections Handbook, vol. 2, 2025:
Ann Gardner is a public artist known for her sculptural installations in glass. Gardner studied ceramics and fine arts at the University of Oregon and Portland State University. Originally working with hand painted ceramics, following a residency and training with Dale Chihuly at Pilchuck Glass School, Stanwood, Washington, Gardner began incorporating glass into her artistic practice. Blown glass orbs are found throughout her artistic practice, as well as colorful glass mosaic sculptures.
Ripple, the installation in central campus’ state-of-the-art teaching auditorium Troxel Hall, creates a floating interwoven circular mosaic sculpture overhead while students pass by below. Incorporating organic forms for the structure, the colorful glass mosaic tiles effortlessly shimmer in the sunlight. Students are often found studying along the long-windowed hall, and the mosaic suspended above provides an artful place to do so.
