Label TextJames Earl Fraser (1876-1953), arguably the most important American sculptor of his generation and probably best known for designing the iconic Indian Head Nickel, originally made this portrait for a medal but later produced the plaque for the Decorative Arts League of New York. One of these plaques apparently hung in the White House as President Obama used the featured quote in a March 2010 speech regarding health care reform, noting he had recently seen it on a plaque displayed in the White House room where he met with insurance company executives.
