Not on viewLabel TextA fat woman is sitting in a folding deck chair at the end of a pier. She is wearing a sunbonnet, and is knitting, while keeping two fishing lines open. She has already caught a few fish, which are tied to a line hanging from the pier. Darling did a number of small related pencil sketches of fishermen who attracted his attention, and one closely related to this print is of the same figure seen from the side. A Darling cartoon of August 22, 1944 shows a fisherman in a very similar position as the figure in the print, watching the U.S. Army and Navy hauling in swordfish while sharks, reprsenting domestic problems, swim under the pier. The acetate plate is mounted to an etched copper plate with an image of the Piazza San Marco by an unknown artist.
