In the early 1950s , Darling executed a number of gouache drawings of pelicans near Captiva Island, Florida, where he had a winter home. The pelican is also shown in his 1938 greeting card "Tween-Waters Inn". The acetate plate was glued down to a copper plate for printing. A copy of this print, in the same direction as the original was made, probably by Gordon Meaney.
