Label TextAnimal scientist active in extension. Rex Beresford was born in Vinton, Iowa, in 1885. He received a B.S. in animal husbandry from Iowa State University in 1911 and became active in raising registered beef shorthorns, as had three generations of Beresfords before him. In 1912, Beresford began work in advertising and publicity as a representative for the Avery Farm Machinery Company. From 1912 to 1916, he was a field representative for the Iowa Beef Producers Association, organizing the first baby beef clubs and the first baby beef show at the Iowa State Fair. Beresford was active in the Iowa extension service for 39 years, becoming an associate professor of animal husbandry in 1916 and a professor in 1921. In 1948 he also became a professor of livestock marketing.
