Label TextAfter arriving at Fort Des Moines in 1846 Phineas McCray Casady (1818-1908) became the first postmaster of the town. He then went on to serve as a state senator, elected judge, regent of the State University, and president of the Des Moines Savings Bank. Casady is also notable in that during his time in the State Senate he helped organize the counties of Iowa and their boundaries.
