Label TextWhether or not the impending war in Europe influenced the title of this print, Darling had frequently connected hunting and war in his cartoons. This image is notable for its deep space, created not only by the low horizon and meandering cloud banks, but also by the seemingly infinite number of bluebells coming in waves like isobaric lines across the sky. Both a study for the composition (UI 50, pencil touched with pen) and the actual source for the photoengraving (UI 53), with the note to the platemakers: "12 inches wide" still exist, as well as the copper plate.
