Not on viewLabel TextNo contemporary impression of this plate is known, which is perplexing, for the image is one of Darling's most accomplished. Like THROUGH THE TREES, this print is derived from a series of drawings Darling made depicting flocks of mallards landing behind large, dense, bare trees that screen the landscape. The original drawing, in this case, is known (UI 85) & it bears instructions to the photoengraver. The ducks & the water areas have considerable drypoint reinforcement, giving this print a more velvety quality than THROUGH THE TREES (cat #44). The copper plate is extant (plate inventory #40) and was printed in 1983 for documentation. (per Amy Worthen)
