Not on viewLabel TextOne would have little reason to imagine that Darling was still searching for a solution to this image 17 years after his original work on the problem. The existence of a copper plate (plate inventory #46) with a wrapper labeled "New Honeymoon Pintails (1960)," however, testifies to the fact that he was doing exactly that. A restrike made from the plate in 1983 shows that this new plate is derived from the first state of the first version (cat.#52) but rephotographing the photoetched image coarsened & thickened the lines & simplified the dark areas, so that this third version has the most contrast. Finally, in addition to the plate mentioned, there is yet another plate of this image (plate inventory #64) whose size exceeds slightly all the other versions. This latter plate is copper, & is very under-etched so that it would not make an adequately dark impression. (per Amy Worthen)
