Not on viewLabel TextDarling used one of the paint-spattered second state of the first version of this image to have a new photo-positive made, and from this new photo-positive, he had a new plate made. (An updated photograph [c. 1960] of Darling's studio shows this photo-positive tacked up on a board, along with a spattered from the first version fo the plate). He then re-aquatinted the plate, creating an image that was of an allover gray tonality except for the highlights on the pintails. This proof is dated 1953 by the artist, and there is good reason to think that he did this reworking at a distance of ten years from the first version, rather than simply making an impression of a ten-year-old plate. The new aquatinting obviously went too far, and he rejected the new version.
