Status
Not on viewLabel TextDarling had a drawing photomechanically transferred to two zinc plates, and both blates were severely damaged during the etching process. This plate is slightly smaller than the second one, and has extensive foul biting, where the acid bit under the hard ground coating. The white streaks are probably the result of stop-out varnish that gave additional protection to the plate. This image reappears as a large scale drawing hanging on the wall of Darling's studio in the cartoon published in the Des Moines Register on the day after his death in 1962. No contemporary impression is known; in 1983 one restrike was made for documentary purposes.
