Not on viewLabel Text"The Convoy" is based on drawing that shows one row of ducks - the first row in this print. The landscape is not indicated, but the plate was made from an unknown pen-and-ink drawing. There is very little reworking in drypoint, for the phototech must have been successful and complete as is. The only variations betweeen impressions occur in the more or less tonal wiping of the plate. This image shows a shift from Darling's broad view of a flock of ducks in a vast landscape, to a more particularized study, close-up, of a few ducks. His sense of composition and mastery of composition is now very developed, and he has achieved a fine understanding of the advantages and limitations of photoengraving. The nickel-chromed copper plate is extant.
