Meaney added the stalks of cane and abraded the lower edge of the plate with sandpaper to achieve printable tone. This impression is printed in umber ink, with selective wiping of plate tone. The upper mallard's body is wiped cleane, while the water is left dark. In the second state, there is further work on the grasses at the left. The copper plate is extant.
